Background Discovery Settings

This allows IoT devices to be automatically discovered on a particular network.

A discovery poll message is sent every few seconds to prompt any IoT device to respond. Once a device responses it can automatically added to the a list of new devices. This feature is good when new device are expected to be added sometime later. Once all the devices have been found this feature can be turned off. This is enabled from the settings menu.

It show the following dialog window.

The list shows the network adapter's name and a possible description of it. The background enabled indication show the network is polled in the background to discover devices as oppose to only polling during an active dialog to seek new devices

Auto add devices

If the Auto add device option is ticked then when new devices are found they are automatically added to the list of managed devices.

Polling seconds

This is the time in seconds when it will re-poll for new devices in case they have just be put in.

Add

Pressing the Add button gives a list of network devices that are available on the Computer. Select the ones that are connected to the IoT devices. The IP address of the network adapter should start with the same numbers as the IoT devices.

Sometimes the names of the network adapters are obscure. On most conputers there is often a wireless network adapter and a wired Local Area Network (LAN) adapters. In this example en01 is the primary LAN and wlp3s0 is the wireless network.

Once the network adapter is added to the list it will be available for polling devices.
